Cleanliness & Safety

How are the toys cleaned and sanitized between families?

Every toy goes through a documented cleaning and sanitization process before it reaches a new family. We use baby-safe, non-toxic products selected for each material type — wood, silicone, and natural rubber are each cleaned differently.

Toys are inspected before and after cleaning; anything that can't be confidently cleaned or shows excessive wear is retired from circulation, not reused. Records of every cleaning are maintained internally.

Are the toys safe for teething babies?

Many babies explore with their mouths, especially during the teething stage.

We prioritize thoughtfully selected toys made from durable, baby-safe materials like food-grade silicone and FSC-certified wood whenever possible.

What if a toy shows signs of wear or damage?

Normal baby wear-and-tear is expected.

Every toy is inspected between families, and toys showing excessive wear or damage (like chipping, deep bite marks, or broken parts) is retired from circulation rather than reused.

We'd rather replace a toy than have families worry about keeping everything in perfect condition. If you receive something that doesn't look right, just let us know and we'll make it right.

What kinds of toys do you accept into the rotation?

We're selective. We look for toys that are durable, developmentally purposeful, and made from safe materials: things like solid wood and silicone. Toys with excessive small parts, soft foam that deteriorates, or anything that can't be properly sanitized don't make the cut.

Membership & Boxes

How often do boxes change?

Each BurbleBox is designed around a developmental stage rather than a fixed monthly schedule.

Most families keep a box for around 2-3 months, though younger babies may move through stages a bit faster.

Each box includes up to 3 months before moving on to the next stage, and you're charged per box rather than monthly.

What ages are supported?

BurbleBox currently supports developmental stages from birth through around 2.5 years, with curated boxes designed for each stage along the way.

We plan to expand into older ages over time as BurbleBox grows.

How does pricing work?

BurbleBox is priced per developmental stage box rather than as a monthly subscription.

Each box includes up to 3 months of play, along with local delivery and pickup.

Standard pricing is $80 per box. Founding members get a box for $60 — that's $20/month — less than a single toy.

How much would it cost to buy these toys myself?

Most BurbleBox collections contain between $100 and $140 worth of premium developmental toys. Renting lets your baby enjoy them during the stage they're most useful, without filling your home with toys they'll quickly outgrow.

What happens when my baby ages out of a box?

As your baby grows and is ready for new kinds of play, we'll reach out before it's time to swap to the next BurbleBox.

You'll have a chance to request a short extension if your baby is still deeply engaged with their current toys, or move forward to the next stage when you're ready.

What if my baby loves a toy?

Many babies form strong attachments to certain toys for a season, then naturally move on as their interests and abilities grow. BurbleBox is designed to evolve alongside those changing stages of play.

If there's a toy your family wants to keep, eligible items may be available for purchase instead of returned with your swap.

Can I skip or pause?

Yes. We know real life with babies can be unpredictable.

If you need a little more time before moving to the next box — whether you're traveling, overwhelmed, or your baby is still deeply engaged with their current toys — you can request a short extension before swapping stages.

Do I have to commit to multiple boxes?

No — BurbleBox is designed to be flexible. You can continue progressing through stages over time, or stop after any box if it no longer feels like the right fit for your family.

How many toys come in each box?

Most BurbleBoxes include around 6 thoughtfully selected toys and play items, depending on the developmental stage.

We focus more on quality and developmental fit than maximizing toy count: enough variety to keep things engaging, without overwhelming your space.

Delivery & Returns

How does delivery work?

BurbleBox currently offers local delivery and pickup rather than traditional shipping.

When it's time for a swap, we'll schedule a delivery window for your next box and pickup of your current one.

When do swaps happen?

BurbleBox follows a developmental roadmap with recommended swap windows based on your baby's age and stage.

Before each planned swap, we'll reach out to schedule delivery of the next box and pickup of your current one. Each box includes up to 3 months before moving to the next stage, with short extensions available if your baby is still deeply engaged with their current toys.

Do I need to clean or package everything before a swap?

No need to clean or sanitize toys before returning them — we handle that ourselves with our full cleaning process. Just gather everything up and we'll take care of the rest.

We'll guide you through the swap process and aim to keep returns as simple and low-effort as possible for busy parents.

What if something gets lost or damaged?

Babies are messy, curious, and surprisingly strong sometimes. We expect normal wear-and-tear as part of family life.

If something gets lost or heavily damaged, just reach out. We aim to handle situations reasonably and with understanding rather than creating stressful replacement policies.

Where do you deliver?

BurbleBox currently offers local delivery in San Francisco, the Peninsula, and parts of the East Bay while we grow thoughtfully and keep delivery personal and reliable.

You can in your area and join the waitlist to hear when we expand nearby.

Development & Curation

How are toys selected?

Every BurbleBox is curated around a specific developmental stage and the kinds of play babies naturally gravitate toward during that window.

We prioritize toys that are durable, open-ended, developmentally purposeful, and made from thoughtfully chosen materials like wood and food-grade silicone whenever possible.

Rather than overwhelming families with more and more toys, we focus on a smaller set of high-quality play experiences that grow alongside your baby.

Are the toys Montessori-inspired?

Many BurbleBox toys are inspired by Montessori-style principles like open-ended play, sustainable materials, independence, and developmentally appropriate challenge.

But we draw from a range of developmental philosophies, including Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) and play-based learning, so you don't need to be a Montessori household to love what we send.

Why not just buy toys myself?

You absolutely can — and many families still buy favorite toys along the way.

But most bought toys have a short window of relevance, and quality developmental toys aren't cheap. BurbleBox is for parents who want less clutter, less waste, and less guesswork: a thoughtfully curated rotation that keeps up with your baby's stages without the pile of things they've already outgrown.

Will my baby get bored?

Here's what most parents don't expect: fewer toys means more engagement, not less.

When babies aren't overwhelmed by options, they play more deeply and with more focus. BurbleBox leans into that by providing a smaller, intentional rotation that stays fresh as your baby grows, rather than a static bin they've long since lost interest in.

Do you include electronic or battery-powered toys?

Mostly, no, and here's why we lean that way. Open-ended toys that respond to your baby (not a battery) tend to support richer, calmer, more creative play. They also just last longer and clean up better, which matters when toys are shared across families.

We occasionally include a thoughtfully chosen electronic item, but hands-on, screen-free play is our north star.
